How We Choose Repair and Waterproofing Products

These are the product ranges our teams work with on site, listed so that clients, engineers and specifiers can read the data sheets before work starts. We do not sell products online; each one is selected against the survey findings and the standard that governs the repair — which matters more than the brand.

• Repair mortars are classified under BS EN 1504-3 as R1–R4. Structural repairs to columns, beams, soffits and car park decks need class R3 or R4; R1 and R2 are for cosmetic and non-structural work only. The class, not the product name, is the first thing to check on a quote.
• Reinforcement primers protect cleaned steel before the mortar goes on (BS EN 1504-7). Skipping this step is the most common reason patch repairs fail.
• Injection resins and grouts are chosen under BS EN 1504-5 by what the crack needs: rigid epoxy to restore strength in a dry, dormant crack; flexible or hydrophilic polyurethane to stop water through a live, wet crack or joint.
• Protective coatings — anti-carbonation and deck coatings — are specified under BS EN 1504-2 for the exposure: carbonation resistance on façades, crack-bridging and abrasion resistance on car park decks.
• Below-ground waterproofing — cementitious tanking, membranes and cavity drain systems — is designed to BS 8102:2022 as Type A, B or C protection, often in combination.

Across the 7 manufacturers above we work most with Sika, for which we are a specified applicator, and use the other ranges listed here where a system suits the job better or the project specification names it.
